The Genesis Key
The Genesis Key by James Barney

by James Barney

Dr. Kathleen Sainsbury is determined to decode the mystery of the INDY gene, no matter what it costs her. She believes the INDY gene (INDY as in “I’m Not Dead Yet”) is the key to curing Alzheimer’s and thus saving her father. Unfortunately, Kathleen is not the only one interested in her research and now secrets from the past are colliding with the present. Just what has Kathleen Sainsbury uncovered?

THE GENESIS KEY alternates between various character perspectives and settings, including brief flashbacks to 1979. James Barney does an excellent job at keeping the reader’s interest piqued without overwhelming the reader with the change in settings and character focus. The historical details provide a rich depth to the story, adding ethical issues to the thrill of the chase, while the multidimensional characters often do the unexpected, and yet very human things to do.

THE GENESIS KEY weaves together science and religion to craft a thought provoking thriller. Genesis 6:1-4 is an often debated passage from the Bible and James Barney gives the reader a fascinating twist as to just what it might all mean. Kathleen’s own doubt about God and the Bible helps develop the scope of the story as she believes herself rooted only in what science can show her. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the story is the respect given to all sides of the debate- and the fact that there are extremists on either end. Bravo to James Barney for a tale that is both balanced and captivating!
