My Heart Is Like a Zoo

by Michael Hall

Love is a complex emotion with many facets. Using the heart as the basic shape, Michael Hall presents young readers with a whole host of animals displaying the various aspects of love in bright, engaging images. Each animal is crafted using the heart as the basic shape and every picture includes a short phrase to describe the emotion portrayed.

MY HEART IS LIKE A ZOO is an excellent book for parents, teachers, and group leaders to use as an educational tool. Activities can focus on colors, emotions, counting, and the use of abstract metaphors. Children are very concrete thinkers and this book opens up the concept of similes and the actual meaning behind each one. The rhyming text creates a playful atmosphere while the bold colors make each image distinct and attention-grabbing. What a great book, particularly for Valentine’s Day!
