Sugar Cookies
Sugar Cookies by Amy Krouse Rosenthal

by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
Illustrated by Jane Dyer and Brooke Dyer

Love can be expressed through a variety of words and in many different ways. Explaining these concepts to children can be challenging as the differences can sometimes be minute. Using sugar cookies in each example, the author defines words such as forgive, supportiveness, adore, and selfless.

Children will love the analogies featuring sugar cookies as it breaks the words down into basic concepts and examples that can be easily understood. The illustrations accompanying each word exemplify tenderness and caring. Images of animals are liberally sprinkled throughout the book and it’s impossible not to smile at the dog helping lick the bowl or the young girl sharing with her horse. SUGAR COOKIES: SWEET LITTLE LESSONS ON LOVE would be an excellent book to use in a children’s group focusing on positive social skill building. SUGAR COOKIES: SWEET LITTLE LESSONS ON LOVE would also be an outstanding resource for teachers and parents for Valentine’s Day as the many facets of love are explained and illustrated in a heartwarming and touching manner.
